"The product that helps you explain occlusion concepts"
By Peter Dawson, D.D.S.
A new patient education aid has been developed that I am quite impressed with. It is an answer to the problem of helping patients understand why occlusal problems should be corrected and why some orofacial pain problems and headaches are directly related to occlusal disharmony. The program is called BiteFX. The software for the program enables the dentist to use animated illustrations to show what a perfected occlusion looks like and what happens when occlusal interferences are introduced. I have had the opportunity of spending an entire day with the originators (Don Reid and Doug Brown) going over the program and making numerous suggestions which they are incorporating into the program. Don is a dentist who has embraced our concepts of occlusion including an absolute commitment to centric relation and posterior disclusion. He has a broad range of experience in occlusion including years of direct training in myotronics from its originator, Bernard Jankelson so he understands why CR dentistry is the treatment of choice, and the BiteFX program reflects that understanding. Doug Brown is a computer wizard who puts all the illustrations into a practical format with animations that make each principle of occlusion easy to understand. I think the program will also be very beneficial in helping patients understand the reasons for occlusal equilibration. If you've been looking for help in getting patients to understand why a perfected occlusion is a worthwhile goal, I believe you'll like the BiteFX program. If you are interested, you can call the Center for details on how to incorporate it into your practice and to order a copy. If you'd like to order directly from BiteFX at their website, www.bitefx.com, use the code DCG2 to receive a $50.00 discount through June 30, 2006. While you're on the line, you might also ask about my new book Functional Occlusion from TMJ to Smile Design. It is scheduled for release in August. It is completely illustrated in full color - and it answers just about every question I get asked plus a lot more. Warm regards, To see some screen captures and descriptions of BiteFx, please continue onto page 2. |
